Pathfinders Children's Ministry
Pathfinders Sunday Morning Adventure for Children is CELC's Sunday school ministry for young children. From 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. each Sunday during the school year, children ages 3-6 learn a Bible story and focus on one key lesson that they can apply to their lives. Parents receive activities designed to reinforce the lesson and help them lead faith conversations with their families throughout the week. Pathfinders kids also participate in a variety of outreach, connecting, growing, ministry and worship activities, and they are fully integrated into the life of the church. Godly Play
Godly Play is CELC's Sunday school ministry for elementary school children (ages 7-11) that are able to read. The class begins at 10:15 a.m. with a joint music session with Pathfinders. The older children depart from the Pathfinders classroom for reading of Bible passages in the Godly Play classroom. A story is then told, followed by a time of prayer and a "feast" patterned after communion. When time permits, or on specified work days, the children engage in a creative response to the stories using a variety of craft materials. The goal of Goldy Play is to teach children the art of using religious language -- parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action -- to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God's presence in their lives. Godly Play was developed by author, teacher and Episcopal priest, Jerome W. Berryman and classroom tested since 1972. Godly Play has been offered throughout the United States within denominations as diverse and varied as Catholic, Baptist, Episcopalian, Methodist, Pentecostal, Lutheran, and Presbyterian. Deeply spiritual and highly creative, Godly Play is also used in schools, hospitals, homeless shelters, and retirement centers. For more information, see www.godlyplay.org
