Martha's Table serves 65 gallons of soup and some 3,500 sandwiches to about 1,200 hungry and homeless families and individuals every day of the year. Volunteers load the food into two vans which become mobile soup kitchens, and each night they stop at five locations around D.C.
CELC is responsible for staffing one of the vans on the third Saturday of every month. This requires 4-5 servant volunteers and an overall time commitment of about two hours. Servant volunteers arrive at Martha's Table by 4:45 p.m. at the latest and generally return to Martha's Table by 6:45 or 7 p.m.
This is a fantastic servant project for small groups and families with middle school age children (or older). We encourage everyone to participate in this great opportunity to minister to the hungry and homeless in our area. For more information or to sign up, please see the Servant Opportunities bulletin board in the Narthex or contact the church at 301-652-5160 or by email at families@heartmindsoul.com.
Note: Youth who want to participate through CELC's youth ministry (without their parents) must have a completed permission form on file at the church.
