We are involved in all kinds of missions, both here in the United States, in our Bethesda community, and abroad in many places. Here are some of the ministries we are involved in:
Bethesda Cares serves meals and assists the homeless of Bethesda, and our church is one of several that provides the space for cooking the meals and serving the homeless on a daily basis, the second half of every month. Lunch is served at the red brick house behind the church on Glenbrook Rd.
The people of Christ should be concerned with the care of our God's creation. There is a Biblical mandate for being stewards, not only of our personal resources, but also our planet. Read more about it in this section, and find out about ways you can be a part of caring for God's creation.
Christ Lutheran also has an ongoing annual Backpack Ministry where people collect up to 100 or more backpacks and necessary supplies for the homeless, such as towels, socks, blankets, Bibles, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. On the Eve of Thanksgiving every year, the church gathers to have a meal together, followed by stuffing all of the backpacks and giving them to the homeless. Everyone involved is tremendously blessed!
Mi Refugio is a Mission in Guatemala was started as a mission to feed, clothe, and educate the poorest of the poor children of the Guatemala City garbage dump. In addition to occasionally sending teams down to work for a week, we take up a "noisy collection" of coins every Sunday, and send money down to Mi Refugio every year from that collection.
