Martha’s Table serves 65 gallons of soup and some 3,500 sandwiches to about 1,200 hungry and homeless families and individuals every day of the year. Volunteers load the food into two vans which become mobile soup kitchens, and each night they stop at five locations around D.C. CELC is responsible for staffing one of the vans on the third Saturday of every month. This requires 4-5 servant volunteers and an overall time commitment of about three hours. Servant volunteers carpool from CELC, leaving at 4:00 pm and return back to church around 7:00 pm. This is a fantastic servant project for small groups and families with middle school age children (or older). We encourage everyone to participate in this great opportunity to minister to the hungry and homeless in our area. To sign up, please see the Servant Opportunities bulletin board in the Narthex or email Jill North at jillpop123(at)yahoo.com. Note: Youth who want to participate through CELC’s youth ministry (without their parents) must have a completed permission form on file at the church.
